April 4th, 2012, 12:04 am - Yo, yo! My other webcomic!

Holy crap, you guys!

I didn't think it would happen that fast but it happened really fast. It seems like a couple of you found my other comics on SJ here.

That was fun. In any case, if you do comment, please play along as a lot of the comic depends on believing David is a real person. Mostly for story reasons.

However, if it answers anything, the comic is about 90% based on my life. Haha.

If you want to talk about the comic to me and not David then please message me.

But seriously, guys. SECRETS!

Actually I found it on tumblr! And I was pretty sure by the art that you're the author, yet it was pretty confusing if it's really a personal blog/comic or not.. finally I know the truth! Haha! :)
Anyway I love that comic too :3

[Posted by ErrePi on April 4th, 2012, 10:13 am]

Haha, really? The circle I run in is smaller than I thought.

But that's still really cool!

Haha. If you ever found my blogs first, there's a lot of pictures and writing about them that would've made it fairly obvious, haha.

I'm glad you like the other comic too!

Well, damn. [Posted by Eggfish on April 4th, 2012, 9:46 pm]

Honestly, I kind of figured it was you a while ago, because of your art style, but David seems ridiculously genuine - as do the rest of the cast.

I think both comics may be among my top five comics of all time on SJ~

@Eggfish: Haha, well. I wasn't trying to hide it.

Haha, that's good, that's good. I keep worrying over whether or not I can write in the voice of a 34 year old guy.

Writing IDGI has been weird, it's been both a writing exercise and an acting exercise, haha.

Aw, well, wow. That's incredibly great to hear. Thank you.

Gosh, yeah. I can imagine. I tend to fancy myself something of a writer, and getting a perfect sense of your character is near impossible. I think characters are my favorite part of writing. I mean, done well, it's sort of an art form in itself; working out every little quirk, slowly dissecting their mentality and letting them essentially control themselves. I love it. Picking an asexual male is tough, and I think you did really well with it. The reason I like your comics do much is because of the writing. Not in the script, but in the natural way things seem to evolve and the believable manner in which your characters act. I mean, yes, every now and then, certain things seem slightly exaggerated, but it isn't painfully so. On top of that, autobiographical comics are usually at /least/ a little more dramatic than reality. All in all, you're doing really great. I'm so glad I found these comics~
{Oh lord. It's 3am. No wonder I'm rambling do much. Dx I'm going to stop talking/typing now...}

[Posted by ErrePi on April 9th, 2012, 1:23 am]

@Eggfish: Ah, definitely, definitely. That's why it's great to put your characters into unusual situation where you might find out something new and unique about them.

Haha. Characters are definitely my favorite part of writing. I mean, you can't have a story without characters, right? Haha.

Aw, jesus. You don't know how happy it makes me to have someone compliment my writing since that's usually my focus. Thank you. I love wrting.

Haha, yeah? An asexual male wasn't so bad since I'm asexual myself. Haha. The hardest part was his age and gender.

Haha, oh, yeah? What parts seem exaggerated? I'm not angry or anything! I'd just like to know what people think of my writing. I'm mostly just curious if it's the parts I made up more or the parts that are real.

Baw, I'm so happy, thanks. You made me really happy. Without realistic characters how can people relate to them or the plot? So if you think they're naturalistic, I hope they can become important to people.

Also, haha. We both replied at around the same time. I am also... tired and rambling.

I like how David was angsty and grumpy and became mellow when he got older :) he doesn't seem like a butt to me, if anything, he's a really nice butt XD haha that sounded wrong, I'm not the swearing type. I just finished reading ddgi and I have to say, I love how you can write such personal stuff. I love knowing people's feelings and opinion but no one opens up to me >> Anyway, I hope you never stop writing/drawing comics :) but that's too much to ask XD ( Sorry for the long comment! )

[Posted by ErrePi on April 12th, 2012, 12:23 am]

@Anonanon: Haha, yeah. David's progression is one of my favorites, something that I hope to go through when I get older, haha.

David's the middle aged guy I hope to grow up to be!

Haha. Nice butt. Ok, sorry.

Ah, sorry you don't like swearing! I swear constantly everywhere!

Yeah, good! Glad you enjoy the other comic. Also, no worries, I hope I don't stop writing/drawing comics either. That's always been a big fear of mine.

A teacher of mine knew someone who was quite an independent animator. And then she went and worked for Disney and somehow it scarred her to the point she stopped animating ever since.

Ain't no big deal, son. I enjoy long comments, haha.

I really don't mind people swearing, I'm used to it, it's a choice thing, you know? I just choose not to swear. I want to be an animator someday, but I never considered working for Disney, I didn't know Disney was so tough. It kinda scares me though, being an animator is gonna be tough. But hey, it's better than not following your dreams right? ;) (haha cheesy lines)

[Posted by ErrePi on April 13th, 2012, 10:38 pm]

@Anonanon: Ah, actually, it's not that Disney is tough. It's just that Disney is a corporation, y'know? More in the recent years than it's earliest incarnations but still.

I think to sum up Disney is, "We have no obligation to make history, we have no obligation to make art, we have no obligation to make a statement, to make money is our only objective." Which was in an email their CEO sent out to the animators.

And a teacher of mine, who works a lot in the industry, talked of how people would go to pitch ideas to Disney. They would effectively buy the idea but then not call you to work on it or let you work on it. So they'd just have it for 10 years and, if they decide to use it, just take it out and work on it.

So basically they buy ideas so you can't use them but they can.

They just. They just suck.

I don't know much about being an animator, though it's actually my current job, haha. I just know it's especially hard for animation if you want to make your own work. Comics are nice in that it has an underground scene. It's hard to be big but at least there's a certain level of freedom.

Whatever it is you choose to do, I wish you luck.

But yeah! Definitely! Just... don't go near Disney. Them and Scientology are ones to avoid based on their lawyers alone.

You know this just made me cry. I really thought he was a real person. I was happy that he resembled me so much. Even made me join this site. Now I just feel lonelier than ever. Snif... I'm still gonna read it though.

[Posted by ErrePi on April 25th, 2012, 2:26 am]

@Ackryllis: Oh my god, I'm so sorry.

Sigh. I was afraid something like this would happen.

I'm really, really sorry. I don't really know what I can do to make it up for you and I hope you feel better soon. Feel free to talk to me about it if it helps in any way.

Don't be lonely though! Even if David isn't real, he's still there and always willing to listen.

I think I just died a little... [Posted by bakura240 on July 29th, 2012, 5:53 pm]

I feel a bit stupid now as until I decided to look into your comics and stuff I thought the whole David Doesn't Get It thing was actually a diary comic. I know it's silly but I died a little as I really respected David and now I find out he isn't real xD;;;;
I see at least one other person shared my feelings so glad to know I wasn't alone but I shall go on ignorantly regardless!!! I'm sure despite being fictional the David character will continue to inspire me regardless!!!!
